Focusing on what works
b Hi - my name is Wayne Jencke. I founded Innate Intelligence more than 10 years ago to develop wellbeing programs based on the science of thriving.
I have qualifications in engineering from the University of Melbourne and psychology from Swinburne University of Technology. This combination of psychology and engineering probably explains my interest in practical wellebing solutions that get results.
I have worked in managerial roles focusing primarily on business improvement within the manufacturing, health and education sectors. As you can see from our case studies, this breadth of experience has allowed Innate Intelligence to successfully customise programs to people from a wide range of backgrounds.
So why the emphasis on science in our programs?
When I was studying psychology, one of my major assignments was on emotional intelligence (EI). As part of my studies I attended a workshop on EI that was presented by one of Australia’s major consulting firms. I was surprised to find out that the workshop  focused on an aspect of EI that research suggested had minimal impact.
I emailed the facilitator with a paper that summarised the latest research on EI. However I doubt they read it. Three years later they were still delivering the workshop based on the same obsolete research.
This is fairly typical of most wellbeing programs - more often than not they are based on empty rhetoric and hype rather than science.
From my perspective this creates a unique business opportunity. By focusing on what actually works, we can confidently guarantee that our wellbeing programs will be more effective.
